Anita and Keith Martin (borsuk) > Succulent new leaves burst forth from elaborate buds in March in a process that always rewards a close examination. This looks like fresh Sycamore leaves, set against morning sunshine on the bricks of the Crane Park Shot Tower.
Anita and Keith Martin (borsuk) > Flower of the month in Crane Park is undoubtedly the gorgeous Lesser Celandine. Look out for it almost anywhere, growing in clusters low on the ground. This vibrant show is probably the best local indicator of the arrival of spring.
Anita and Keith Martin (borsuk) > There are several different species of willow in Crane Park and they are not that easy to tell apart. This one is Goat Willow, familiar for producing the little soft buds that are often referred to as "pussy willow". This one was photographed along the quiet loop of the Crane that flows to the immediate west of Mill Road.

Anita and Keith Martin (borsuk) > Luscious young nettle tops and some lovely March sunshine bring dozens of 7-spot ladybirds out of winter hibernation.
Anita and Keith Martin (borsuk) > March sees the buds of the Marsh Marigold begin to open and provide a rich and vibrant flash of colour to secluded corners of the banks of the Crane.
Anita and Keith Martin (borsuk) > Already clearly recognisable, these newly emerged Horse Chestnut leaves soak in the sunlight of a fine spring afternoon in Crane Park.
